Love is Love,

There was a time when things between us looked good
Before the crime we moved to a neighborhood
He told me things would get better but I always got burned
Love’s a hard lesson learned
When he first hit me He was higher than a kite
Drinking beer and whiskey every day and night
And with a punch and a threat something in me had turned
Love’s a hard lesson learned
We got married and I suffered though the years
I surrendered to my fate
Looking back through the damage and the tears
Still fills me with hate
It happened to late yeah
Well he kept a gun in his dresser drawer Buried neath his clothes
I’d thought about it before
But one night he crossed the line And my revenge was earned
Love’s a hard lesson learned
Now I don’t regret the killing or a God damn thing
In a few more years I’m getting paroled
My mother said she’s gonna sell my wedding ring
Gave it to her to hold I’ll be happy when it’s sold yeah
Now it’s prison confessions in a solitary church
Don’t ask me to pray man these lessons are a curse
I got a barbed wired heart that bleeds and yearns
So bless me father love’s a hard lesson
Bless me father no sin in this detention
All my love is a hard lesson learned
